Nobel laureate Novoselov to attend 34th edition of Kerala Science Congress

Thiruvananthapuram: With the theme “Science, technology and innovation for transition to a knowledge economy”, the 34th edition of Kerala Science Congress has commenced here on Thursday. The annual event conducted by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment has been inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the event held at Mar Ivanios College here.

The two-day event will witness the special lecture series of luminaries including Noble Prize winner physicist Konstantin Novoselov. Apart from him, ISRO chairman S Somanath and State Planning Board vice-chairman VK Ramchandhran will be delivering lectures.

School students who got qualified for the National Children's Science Congress will present their projects in the Child Science Congress scheduled on February 12 from 10 AM to 1 PM. A debate session is also scheduled for February 12.

The event will act as a platform for science enthusiasts, technologists, researchers and academicians in and around the state and elsewhere to share their knowledge, experiences, research and technologies that can aid the betterment of Kerala. Individuals can present papers on various science subjects too. It is learnt that the event will have around 140 such presentations. Around 160 posters will be exhibited. 614 post-graduate students who are part of the event will have an opportunity to interact with scientists and other professionals. Chief Minister’s gold medals for young scientists and science-literary awards will be distributed at the event.
