Kozhikode: When music lovers around the globe are mourning the demise of legend Lata Mangeshkar, Radhika Rao, a singer based in Kozhikode, has been winning hearts with her unique homage. She placed Lataji’s photo along with the Gods in her pooja room. After placing the photo and lighting the lamp along with her husband and children, Radhika sang the song ‘Kuch Dil Ne Kaha’ from the movie ‘Anupama’.
After singing the song, she broke into tears and said, ‘This is Lataji’s favourite song’.
Radhika Rao who rose to fame by singing Lata Mangeshkar’s songs is also popular as Kozhikode’s own Lata Mangeshkar.
Radhika and her family reside at the house named ‘Meera’ near Govt. Achuthan Girls Higher Secondary School at Chalappuram.
Lata Mangeshkar is equal to God in this house. The whole family is in grief over the demise of the great singer. They have been spending time watching programmes related to Lataji on television and listening to her songs on their mobile phone.
“Today is the day that left me completely shattered. I feel like I have lost my mother,” said Radhika with tears.
“Lataji will be in my pooja room forever. It has been many years since we started seeking blessings from her portrait. A day in our life begins with her blessings,” she added.
Radhika, who belongs to a family of artistes, inherited music talent. She used to sing Lataji’s songs from childhood. Interestingly, she started her singing career through music concerts by singing Lata Mangeshkar’s songs.
Before Lataji's demise, Radhika organised five musical nights as a tribute to her.
