Palakkad: A Palakkad native who got in the Kalpathi river to take bath found a 5 kg weighing metal statue. Town North police arrived at the scene and examined the statue. Later, they handed it over to the archaeological department for further examination.

The statue was found on Monday morning from the river near the Vishalakshisametha Viswanathaswamy Temple. As soon as the bather got the statue, he immediately informed the temple authorities. Locals also reached the spot after hearing about the incident. The statue holds a stick in the left hand and a palm leaf manuscript in the right hand.

The age of the statue, which is assumed to be made of 'Panchaloham' (five metals), is being examined. Police said they are investigating whether it was stolen from somewhere and left in the river or ritually abandoned. Also, further action will be taken as per the report of the archaeological department.
