Thalassery: Minister KT Jaleel who is facing allegations on nepotism charges has brushed off the latest allegation against him raised by Muslim league leader KM Shaji. Jaleel said that the allegations are baseless.

I only act abiding to laws and hasn’t done anything wrong, he said.

“It has been so long since I relinquished from local self-government department. I don’t know the said official Ramakrishnan whom it is alleged that I reinstated in the office illegally. The other allegation relating to Minorities Financial Development Corporation appointment is only temporary. Hence it requires no Vigilance enquiry.

Earlier KM Shaji had alleged that Jaleel reinstated a grama panchayat official who was expelled after finding his involvement in serious violation of laws.

Local administration official V Ramakrishnan was transferred to Pattanchery Grama Panchayat after finding that he has violated the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wet Land Act while working as UD clerk in Elappully. He was removed from service in June 2017 as the probe found that he was involved in 146 fraudulent acts.

But, he was taken back to the service within six days as per the request he had given to Jaleel. Shaji alleged that the minister had given order to the local administration secretary for reinstating him. He added that the minister’s action was in favour of trade mafia and he had approached the court against it.

At the same time, Jaleel was shown black flags by IUML activists on Thursday over the nepotism issue. The activists of the Muslim League staged the blackflag demonstration against Jaleel when he was on his way to attend a function at a private college at Thiruvananthapuram. They were removed by the police later.
