Kannur: Late political leader M. V. Raghavan’s son and CMP Aravindakshan faction state secretary M. V. Rajesh plans to form a new faction of CMP. A district convention in this regard was conducted in Kollam the other day. The state convention will be held at Ernakulam on January 27.
Rajesh plans to form the new party after CMP Aravindakshan faction decided to merge with CPM. He organised all party members who disapprove of the merger. CMP merger convention will be held at Kollam on February 3.
Earlier, CMP John faction had continued in UDF after the party split into two, whereas Aravindakshan faction joined LDF. Though CMP demanded the LDF to add them as an ally, CPM rejected the same. Following this, CMP decided to merge with CPM.
During a meeting to discuss the merger, some of the veteran leaders like Patiyam Rajan, M. C. Kannan, T. C. H. Vijayan. M. H. Shahariyar and Sugunan accepted the merger. Meanwhile, party state secretary M. V. Rajesh expressed his strong protest in the decision pointing out that majority of the party workers are against the merger. With this, Rajesh was ousted from the party.
Rajesh opined that the party workers should not be crucified for the vested interests of the leaders to join CPM. ‘At present, we are planning to cooperate with the LDF. In case the Left wing rejected us, we will look for other ways,’ said Rajesh.
CMP John faction holds a positive opinion regarding the formation of a new party under the leadership of Rajesh. After the merger, the LDF cannot add both the factions with them which gives hope to the John faction.
Those who disagree with the merger are concerned that the assets of CMP will be taken over by CPM after the merger. M. V. Rajesh said he would demand that the party assets should be entrusted with a receiver.
Some of the assets are under dispute with the John faction. Some institutions in Kannur are managed by M. V. Raghavan’s family. M. V. Raghavan’s other sons M. V. Gireesh Kumar is with the CMP John faction and M. V. Nikesh Kumar is with CPM.
