Kozhikode: Tense moments prevailed after an elephant turned restive during a procession from Thali temple to Valayanad Devi temple here on Wednesday evening.
The elephant ran amuk at around 7 pm and destroyed an autorickshaw. The mahout who was atop the elephant, clinged to an electric post and escaped miraculously.
The elephant Ambadi Kannan also damaged an auto rickshaw and a motor cycle. The elephant was brought under control after a few hours by the elephant squad and by local people at about 11 pm.
