Kollam Corporation councillor Kokila S Kumar dies in accident

A car that came at break-neck speed hit the scooter from behind.

Kollam: Kokila S Kumar, the BJP councillor in Kollam Corporation, died after a car hit the two-wheeler in which she was travelling. She was 23.

Her father Sunilkumar (50) sustained serious injuries in the accident occurred on the National Highway near Altharamoodu at Kavanad in Padinjare Kollam around 10 pm on Tuesday.

Sunilkumar is a driver attached to the Paravur fire station.

Eyewitness said the car that came at break-neck speed hit the scooter from behind. In the impact, both were thrown way. However, the car did not stop.

Eyewitness suspects that those travelling in the car were in inebriated state. The car hit the scooter after brushing past with few other vehicles. The car could not be traced.

The local residents immediately rushed both of them to Kollam district hospital. However, Kokila’s life could not be saved.

Sunilkumar, who suffered serious injuries, was later shifted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Both of them were returning home after participating in the Onam celebrations organised by residents’ association near Sakthikulangara Dharmasasta temple. Kokila, who represented Thevally division, is the youngest among the 55 councillors in Kollam Corporation.

After completing BA Economics from Kollam SN College, she was pursuing BEd course at Karmela Rani Training College. The body has been kept at Kollam district hospital.

Besides her father, she is survived by mother Shylaja, sister Karthika (BSc student) and brother Sabari (class IX student).
