Thiruvananthapuram: Ministers E Chandrasekharan and Kadakampally Surendran on Friday held discussions with the Latin Church authorities to pacify the Church over its allegation that there were lapses in the rescue efforts initiated by the government in the aftermath of Cyclone Ockhi.
The Ministers held discussions with the church leadership at the Bishop’s House in Vellayambalam. Minister E Chandrasekharan said that the meeting was held as a precursor of the all-party meeting.
The Latin Church had expressed dissatisfaction over the measures adopted by the government in the aftermath of Cyclone Okchi. There were allegations that the rehabilitation package announced by the government was not enough. The Church had demanded to register an FIR in connection with the missing fishermen incident. They had also demanded to solve the lapses in the rehabilitation package. There are indications that the government has accepted the Church's demands.
