CAA: Pondicherry University students boycott convocation ceremony attended by President

Another student, Kozhikode native Rabeeha Abdulrehim, refused to accept the gold medal.

Chennai: In protests of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), three students of Pondicherry University boycotted the convocation ceremony where President Ram Nath Kovind was the chief guest. Another student refused to accept the gold medal.

The three were Karthika, a post graduate in Electronic Media and a Keralite, and PhD students Arun Kumar and Mehalla. Meanwhile, Kozhikode native Rabeeha Abdulrehim, a student of Mass Communication refused to accept the gold medal.

Rabeeha was sent out of the event hall by a police officer before the President arrived.

After the President left, Raheeba was allowed to enter the hall. After being called up to the stage, Rabeeha accepted the certificate but refused to take the gold medal. “I am not accepting the gold medal in support of the protests against CAA,” she said.

She rejected messages circulating on social media that she was sent out for wearing a hijab (headdress).

Later, Rabeeha took to Facebook and announced that nobody had asked her to remove the hijab and that she did not know why she was sent out of the event hall.
