Pathanamthitta: A POCSO court here sentenced a man and his girlfriend to 20 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta. POCSO court judge Jayakumar John convicted Aji (46) and his girlfriend Smitha (33) on Tuesday.
Aji, the first accused, is sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 75,000 for assaulting the child. The punishment for Smitha is for supporting the assault. She has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine.
The tragic incident took place in June 2017. According to the police, the second accused, Smitha, brought the minor to an empty house and the first accused raped from here. Konni police had registered a case and investigated the incident.
