Thiruvananthapuram: An aged man hailing from Pothencode was severely beaten by goons for failing to repay borrowed money. It is reported that the gang hung him upside down close to a well and manhandled him brutally. Police have arrested three members in connection with the incident.
Naseem, who runs a vegetable shop, borrowed Rs 30,000 for commercial purposes from a local moneylender. Repayments have been stagnant as sales have plummeted following the covid pandemic. He was repaying Rs 3,000 per month but was required to repay Rs 1 lakh.
When it failed, four people arrived in an auto-rickshaw and abducted him near the hotel where he was working. Naseem said he was forced to get into the vehicle and the goons threatened him with a knife around his neck.
Later, he was taken to an empty house where he was brutally beaten using a stick. Later, the gang tied him and hung him upside down close to a well.
