Thiruvananthapuram: Mental Deepu (37), a goonda, who suffered serious blows on his head during a brawl, succumbed to injuries at a hospital here on Monday. Mental Deepu was admitted to the Medical College Hospital after a beer bottle was smashed on his head during a brawl. He also sustained injuries in an attack with stones.
According to the Pothencode police, a dispute over sale of property led to the violence. Some members of the land mafia had been carrying out minor attacks in the vicinity for days. Police suspect that violence on Wednesday was part of these attacks. Accused arrested in the case are part of the land mafia. Deepu was hit on his head during a dispute over liquor. According to police, Kuttan, accused in several cases, attacked Deepu with a stone and a beer bottle.
The police said that a five-member gang was involved in the incident. Further, the police have taken into custody three of Deepu's accomplices. However, the main accused, Kuttan and Stephen, are absconding.
