Kalpetta: A goonda leader who was barred from entering Thrissur last month under the Kaapa Act, was arrested from a resort in Wayanad on Monday for challenging the police on social media. Shaiju aka Pallan Shaiju, 43, accused in several cases, had challenged the police on social media from his hideout in the district.

A team led by Kottakal CI nabbed him from the resort on Monday morning based on intelligence reports received by Malappuram SP.

Shaiju, a native of Kodakara, was charged under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) in January and was barred from entering Thrissur district for one year. Recently, he took to social media and used it as a platform to challenge the police force.

Shaiju used to be the goonda leader of a Thrissur-based Quotation gang before shifting his trade to money laundering. Further, he is accused in several cases of burglary and attempted murder in the district itself. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison without trial.
