Mananthavady: In a vehicle inspection conducted by the Mananthavady excise range team and check post staff at Wayanad’s Tholpetty, the officials have arrested a man from Thrissur for smuggling gold jewellery worth Rs 1.18 crore without proper documents. The man has been identified as Anulal (30).
The attempt to smuggle 295.72 sovereigns (2365.72 grams) of gold came to light when officials examined a Karnataka RTC bus going from Mysuru to Ernakulam here on Tuesday at 1:00 AM, as a part of their regular inspection.
The officials handed over the seized gold and the individual to the GST department.
