When all are concerned over the COVID pandemic, this Onam is the least colourful, said actress Nimisha Sajayan. Festive mood has been replaced with caution and precaution. However, Nimisha still has beautiful memories of Onam and she opens up about it....
My childhood days were so happy and memorable. I used to enjoy every moment with my friends in school and college. I never miss any stage performance. There were many art programmes during Onam season. Our policy was to celebrate Onam to the fullest with all those who could not go to Kerala.
Meesa Madhavan in Mumbai
Onam celebrations in Mumbai were so funny. My friends and I used to perform programmes for the Onam celebrations in Ambernath Kerala Samajam. We staged a dance from the movie 'Meesa Madhavan' during one season. I was in the role of Dileep in the performance. Most of the funny Onam celebrations happened in Mumbai.
Onam after 'Thondimuthal'
The Onam after my first movie 'Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum' was celebrated in Mumbai. Then I participated in the celebrations of many associations. After being more active in film industry, I am in Kerala for Onam. However, the flood havocs in the past two years and COVID outbreak this year affected the celebrations. When all are going through a tough time, we cannot celebrate.
'Payasam' love
I love traditional Kerala style Sadya. It is a totally different feel to have Sadya in a banana leaf. I taste all delicacies served on the leaf. If we skipped any one curry, the feast is not complete. Among different varieties of Payasam, I prefer Palada Payasam. My mother supervises Onam special cooking in kitchen. I offer her small help.
Stay safe
We all have to welcome Onam without compromising safety and caution. As my father is in Mumbai, he wouldn't be able to join us for Onam. My mother Bindu, my elder sister Neethu and I are here this time. We plan to stay indoors for all Onam celebrations.
