Pune: The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) has given more importance to Malayalam movies in its calendar this year. Visuals from Malayalam movies have been included as the cover picture of three months in the calendar.

The picture of PJ Antony as a Velichappadu in the movie ‘Nirmalyam’ (1973), the directorial debut of MT Vasudevan Nair, is the cover picture of January. Pictures of Bharat Gopi in ‘Kodiyettam’ (1977) directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Monisha Unni in ‘Nakhakshathangal’ (1986) directed by Hariharan also are included in other months.

MG Ramachandran (Rikshakkaran, Tamil – 1971), M V Vasudeva Rao (Chomanadudi, Kannada – 1975), Uttam Kumar (Antony Firingee, Bengali – 1967), Rahna Sultana (Dastak, Hindi – 1970), Lakshmi (Sila Nerangalile Sila Manithar, Tamil – 1970), Archana (Dasi, Telugu – 1988), Madhabi Mukherjee (Diba Ratrir Kabya, Bengali – 1970), Nandini Bhakthavalsala (Kadu, Kannada – 1973) and Smita Patil (Bhumika, Hindi – 1977) are in the cover picture of the remaining nine months.

The calendar was released via online by director Subhash Ghai and archive director Prakash Magdum on Saturday. The NFAI calendar for 2021 is available via online at
