Sharjah: Late actor Unnikrishnan Namboothiri's grandson Dr Devadarshan Kaithapram is heartbroken for not being able to see his grandfather one last time. Working in Dubai KIMS hospital as a doctor, he could not come home to attend the last rites of his beloved grandfather. Devadarshan is the younger son of Devi, daughter of Unnikrishnan Namboothiri, and lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri.
“After the COVID outbreak occurred, I could not meet grandfather for about a year. We used to see each other online till he fell sick. He talked to me as if we were sitting with each other. As he was familiar with facing camera, he was happy to talk via online,” Devadarshan said.
When he was physically stable, Unnikrishnan Namboothiri used to stay at their residence at Thiruvannur in Kozhikode for months. "He was so happy to stay with us as the house is full of music. Now I feel proud as my grandfather is being loved by all Malayalis," Devadarshan stated.
When Unnikrishnan Namboothiri’s debut movie ‘Desadanam’ was released, Devadarshan and his elder brother Deepankuran, a music composer, were school students. They were surprised to know that their grandfather was acting in movie. The movie was a big hit and he rose to fame.
He was very proud of being able to work with Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Mammootty and Aishwarya Rai. Grandfather gave a lot of love and care for all of his children and grandchildren during his lifetime. Though he is not with us now, we have received all love one could have given in life, Devadarshan added.
