“Padmarajan sir had a plan to make a movie with Mohanlal and me. When we were going for the premiere of Njan Gandharvan, he told me an interesting story of two brothers and he wanted to make the movie with Mohanlal and me. Unfortunately, he passed away after the premiere,” the actor said.

Actor Nitish Bharadwaj mesmerised the Malayalam movie audience as the Gandharvan in the super hit movie ‘Njan Gandharvan’ directed by Padmarajan. Though he has done only one movie in Malayalam, he is in the hearts of Keralites of all generations with the film.

He is also remembered for his role of Sri Krishna in Mahabharat, a television serial aired on Doordarshan.

28 years after ‘Njan Gandharvan’, the actor arrived Kozhikode for the book launch of producer Goodknight Mohan aka R Mohan who produced the movie ‘Njan Gandharvan’. In an interview with Mathrubhumi, he talked about his sudden exit from mollywood after playing a lead role in a classic movie.

“I have been in film industry for a long time. I have done Hindi movies and Marathi movies as an actor, director and screenwriter. But no movies have made me popular like 'Njan Gandharvan'. Wherever I go, people identify me as two icons, one is the Gandharvan in 'Njan Gandharvan' and the other is Sri Krishna in Mahabharat,” said Nitish Bharadwaj.

“I think Njan Gandharvan and Sri Krishna’s role in Mahabharat were the milestones in my life,” he added.

The actor stated that though director Padmarajan discussed a new movie with him, it failed to workout as the director passed away.

“Padmarajan sir had a plan to make a movie with Mohanlal and me. When we were going for the premiere of Njan Gandharvan, he told me an interesting story of two brothers and he wanted to make the movie with Mohanlal and me. Unfortunately, he passed away after the premiere. If that movie was made, probably I could have settled in Kerala and done more Malayalam movies,” the actor said.

After 'Njan Gandharvan', Nitish Bharadwaj moved to England to pursue degree in English theatre. When he returned to Mumbai, he entered into politics and was elected as a Lok Sabha MP. Later, he became busy in Mumbai with TV serials and movies.

Nitish Bharadwaj has acted in Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro and Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Kedarnath. He also expressed his interest to watch Malayalam movies like 'Drishyam'.

The actor noted that though he is a politician and veterinary surgeon by academics, he has an inner calling for films. “Films give me a sense of joy and satisfaction,” he added.
