Andhra's Navaratri special dish - Pulihora


A super tangy delicacy for all occasion

Pulihora is a tasty and tangy food with cooked rice, tamarind, jaggery and peanuts. This is a common rice preparation in the South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Preparation: Dry roast mustard or sesame seeds, powder them and set aside. Take a thick paste of tamarind and set it aside. Cook rice with required salt and drain out excess water. In a pan, heat oil, fry dal and peanuts till golden. Add curry leaves, ginger, green chillies and red chillies and fry well.



Add tamarind paste, jaggery, hing and cook until the mixture becomes think. Switch off the stove and add mustard powder. Mix the rice with the fried ingredients.
