V Sivankutty

Thiruvananthapuram: General education minister V Sivankutty on Wednesday said that the academic year in schools in Kerala will not be extended to make up for the lost time. Schools will have exams and summer vacations as usual, he said.

The decision to resume classes in full strength was taken after deliberations. Exams, including model exams, are scheduled. A detailed guideline will be released on February 12, he added.

The primary aim is to complete the chapters, the minister said. He requested the 'social media warriors' to stay away from creating 'confusion' regarding the 'focus area'. Teachers' unions cannot dictate the policies of the government. There are many organisations. All of them cannot be satisfied, he said.

The exam manual has been republished after 16 years as many stated demanded it to use as a reference. Wonderful changes are happening in the sector. Hence more students are opting for government schools, the minister said.
